About Alderlea
Our story.
Over two decades ago, Farmer John and Katy — with a commitment to love well, live well, and eat well — purchased the 13-acre piece of property in beautiful Glenora, which has grown into what Alderlea Farm is today. The two of them started out small, farming the land and selling vegetables to family and friends. Quickly after, they rented more land and increased production to provide certified organic and biodynamic vegetables to over 200 families in the Cowichan Valley through community supported agriculture (CSA) harvest boxes. Their commitment to fresh, honest and good food begins with the toil and love of growing delicious and nutritious vegetables, raising happy animals, and stewarding the earth.
Today, Alderlea farm has blossomed into a vibrant community hub and gathering space where the land is tended to with care and delight by many, including their grandchildren. The farm's produce continues to be available through the CSA program (2025), and its delicious bounty is also featured and savoured in the on-site farm-to-table restaurant, The Alderlea Farm Café. Additionally, Alderlea offers a serene farm-stay, creating a peaceful and rejuvenating atmosphere for all. The farm remains a poignant symbol of the family's unwavering love for the earth and their aspirations, coming full circle with each new day.
Katy: Rural Woman of the Year
Katy was awarded Rural Woman of the Year by the Lieutenant Governor of BC. This award is given to women who have made a difference and are valued members of the farming community. Ehrlich is a farmer who “embodies the principles of sustainable food production and distribution, stewardship for the earth and building community.”
